another bird

i had two social
engagements last night.
i neglected both
of them.

today i ran errands,
passing by the occasional
jingling paper cup:
i delivered posters to alcove
went to the bank
art supply store
staples
had coffee and bagel with cream
cheese and crispy bacon
on a park bench
near 27th st. and 10th ave.
while i thought about
family
racism
the temperature
intentions
and the fucked up
L train
art scene
money scene
and rent scene

then, heading home
i gave $9 to mighty mutts
at union square
looked at photos of
homeless pit bulls

and
returned one bird bath
to petland.

a pillow

unrelated

come on over
and i'll tell you everything
you ever wanted to know
about catnip
what i've read anyway
which is not
what i've heard.

sometimes it's hard to find the truth.

a leather tab
fell off of a zipper
on my dunlin bag so
i replaced it with a charm.

i kicked something while
racing to the train today.
while waiting on the subway platform
i realized it was my charm.
i back tracked, up the stairs
and through the station.
i went directly to where
i heard the clink
and found my charm.

apparently, it's easier to find a tree branch.

one time
i got off the train
and was annoyed by something
that was caught on the bottom of
my cowboy boot.
turns out
it was one of my favorite
necklaces made by my sitster.
one of the beads had gotten
snagged in the hole of my heel.
i hadn't realized that
the necklace had fallen
from my neck.

evidently, i'm a good fisherman.

a desire

If there is something to desire,
there will be something to regret.
If there is something to regret,
there will be something to recall.
If there is something to recall,
there was nothing to regret.
If there was nothing to regret,
there was nothing to desire.

a chicken (not)

.
.
.
.
.
THIS is not chicken shit.
.
.
.
.
.
.
FYI:
chicken shit (pronounced chick-en shhhit)
1. Contemptibly petty or insignificant. For example, He has spent his life making up chicken shit rules that nobody follows anyway. This expression gained currency during World War II, when it was often applied to the enforcement of petty and disagreeable military regulations. [Vulgar slang; c. 1930]
2. Cowardly, as in You're not too chicken shit to come along, are you? [Vulgar slang; mid-1940s]
3. To negate truth and reality, especially due to "peer/social" pressures [Vulgar slang, or not; now, 2007]
4. My two words for the day [Vulgar slang, or not; now, 2007]

about Wendaferd

I was born to a carpenter and an artist/activist/homemaker in Indiana, right smack-dab in the middle of the middle class and white America. I am number 7 of 8. On a really good day my mother called me Wendaferd. I am an artist and the founder of SUGAR. My photographs explain what I am thinking. The image becomes a drawing of my conclusions. Within the captured moment lie my notions and opinions about the world I live. Cropping happens in the lens, eliminating unnecessary words, while enriching others that remain within the frame. I trust my instincts and intuitions as if they were logic. Gwendolyn Charlene Skaggs
